Educating for the Lived Gospel #218

Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. (Ex 20:8)

Humans frequently want too much of a good thing. We need food to live – we can overeat. Work can help to give life purpose – we can become workaholics. The sabbath is giving life a balance. Recreation, from its etymology ‘made new’, is important for each of us. The wholeness of a work-life balance helps us to be holy. Spending time with family strengthens those relationships that make us whole. On the sabbath honouring the God who loved each of us into life, makes us whole…and holy.

There are so many activities in which to participate outside work or school, each with their benefits. Young people need to be guided to find a balance in their life – so that they have time to be and not just focus on doing. When we focus on our being as well as our doing, we become more whole…and more holy.

Have a great week!

  1. Been in Canberra this week as part of the Honouring Vietnam Veterans Programme.

Any time I put the TV news on or checked the local paper all I saw was reports on the upcoming Eels v Raiders game.

    Go the Eels!

p.s. Bill and one of the students I chaperoned (Kealy). I took seven from all over Victoria. Bill told me he had debated against our school back in 1983!
